Mary's Revenge: A Splatoon Story (Chapter 25)
Two days later, Mary and John get on the bus to school. They sit apart from each other. Mary looks out the window, a sad look on her face.
How am I ever going to apologize to Lucy? She thinks. I’m going to have to do it if I want John and Nancy back. But I can’t find it in myself to forgive her… She sighs, before turning to face forward in her seat. When the bus arrives at school, they both get off, not even looking at each other as they walk into school. They continue on like this for much of the day, not speaking to each other, and Mary looking depressed, barely able to focus on her work, or ea

While that had been going on, Lucy had texted Agnes.
Hey, Agnes? Can we talk? - Lucy
She began to wait. Agnes was in her room, on the floor, petting her pet sea slug named Mochi. Mochi is white with chocolate-colored “ears” and small chocolate brown spots down the length of their body. Agnes heard her phone go off. She looked up at her phone, got up onto her knees, and grabbed her phone off of her bed. She looked at the notification, and when she saw that it was from Lucy, she froze.
Lucy texted me?! She thought. What does SHE want?! She looked away for a bit. What do I do

A short while later, while still playing his game, a thought pops into John’s head.
Wait, I said I would let Mary know when Lucy was willing to talk to me again. He thinks.
About three weeks earlier, John had been working on homework when he heard a knock at his door. John stopped and looked at his door, and then got up and walked over to it. He opened it, and saw Mary standing before it.
“Hi, John.” She said. John folded his arms.
“What do you want?” John asked. Mary took a deep breath.
“John, I’m sorry about th

Three weeks later, it’s now a Tuesday in late October. Splatoween is approaching, and people in the Brine family’s neighborhood have begun putting up appropriate decorations. It’s late in the afternoon, and John is in his room, playing a game on his computer. At some point, he gets a notification on his phone. He checks it, and his eyes widen when he realizes it’s a text from Lucy.
Hey - Lucy
She texted me! He thinks. He pauses his game, then opens his text messages and sends a reply.
Hey! - John
Can you call me? - Lucy

A week has gone by, and John and Mary are no longer grounded. During that time, John, Nancy, and Alex didn’t talk to Mary. It’s lunchtime at school on a Tuesday. Lucy is sitting by herself again. John approaches her with his lunch tray.
“Hey, Lucy.” John says. “Can we talk?” Lucy pauses.
“I’m not ready to speak with you again yet.” Lucy says.
“But Lucy…” John says.
“Please!” Lucy says, in an almost begging tone, not even looking at John. John sighs.
“Alright.”

Upon arriving home, Lucy parks in her driveway. She gets out and walks into her house. Once inside, she takes off her shoes, and then is approached by Emily.
“Good afternoon, Madame Lucy!” She says.
“Hey, Emily.” Lucy says.
“Is there something the matter, Madame Lucy?” Emily asks. Lucy sighs.
“Emily, there’s something I need to tell you.” She says. “Can I tell you in the living room?”
“Of course, Madame Lucy.” Emily says. The two of them enter the living room and then sit down i

Lucy eventually left the bathroom and went to her first class, but she showed up late. Later on, at lunchtime, everyone is in the cafeteria. Lucy is sitting by herself, with no lunch. She has to buy her lunch, but she hasn’t bought any.
I have no appetite… She thinks. John sits down at a table with his tray. The cafeteria is serving pizza today, so he has two slices and a carton of chocolate milk.
“Hey, John.” Nancy says. John looks up to see Nancy, with her tray, and Alex, with his bagged lunch, approaching him.
“Oh, hey guys.” John says. Alex and

The next day at school, Hannah and Agnes wait for Lucy at the south lot. Hannah has her arms crossed.
“I’m feeling nervous.” Hannah says.
“Just act like nothing’s wrong and everything is normal.” Agnes says. Hannah lets out a sarcastic laugh.
“Of course, like I always do.” Hannah says.
“Oh, I’m sorry.” Agnes says.
“Nah, it’s cool.” Hannah replies. A short while later, they see Lucy walking towards them from the parking lot.
“There she is!” Agnes

After their walk around the park, John and Lucy head back to the parking lot.
“Well, I’d say that was a pretty great date.” Lucy says. “Thank you for suggesting this, John.”
“You’re welcome, Lucy.” John says. They get into John’s car together.
“I’m also really glad I was able to tell you about my life story.” Lucy says. “I feel like I’ve had a massive weight lifted off of my chest.”
“I’m glad I was able to help you.” John says. They smile at each other and gaze in
